"Got any homework?"
"Yeah."
"Hard?"
"No. I have to write in my baby diary."
"What?"
Tristan turned around in his seat to look at me while I was driving. "See, we are learning about the reproductive system, and instead of a test, she wants us to write about being the sperm."
"Um. Being the ....sperm?"
"Yeah!" Tristan said enthusiastically. "You know: Write about going up the tubes and all that. " Apparently, anything is better than a test. "See, we saw a movie and it was INSIDE A LADY. And we saw the sperm and the egg and the dividing and did you know little babies have stubs for arms and legs?"
"Um. A movie?"
"Yeah. It was gross but cool too. I feel sorry for the mom who had the camera inside of her. Can I ask you a question?"
Oh please, God. Please, please. No questions.
"Why would somebody abort a baby? The movie was really, really cool. Don't they know the baby is alive?"
I sighed. "I don't know sweetie. Usually, it's because they are scared."
"Yeah," he said. "I mean, it does kinda look like an alien."
I sighed again and we talked a little bit about why abortions happen. He was silent for a while. Then:
"I was scared about having Caden, but now I'm glad he's here."
Me too. :)
