Does size matter?

Does size matter?

Had a check-up with the 'jordmor' the norwegian word for midwife.

Weighed 63,7 kg.
My blood pressure is low 96/63 and my tummy's size is bit under the curve.
Need to have another appointment next week to see its growth.
If the size is still and much more under the curve then I have to get ultrasound check-up to see if the baby is ok.

I feel worry but the midwife said it's ok as long as I feel the baby's movement. Besides, the curve was made according to the European size, not Asian size.
I still feel worried, though, and feel that my tummy now is smaller compared to the size of my tummy on my first pregnancy on the same stage.

When I told Hardy about the result, he rushed into the store, bought lots of food, cooked them and asked me to finish them all. Which was really nice and very thoughtfull but I couldn't eat them at once. The space for food in my tummy is getting smaller.

Rang my mom and consulted with her about my condition. Her tummy was not so big either, she said. Don't worry too much. That was a relief and I try not thinking too much about it, then.

I just can cross my fingers and asked Him to protect me and my baby.

Memory

hello! hope you had a wonderful three day weekend! we spent ours up in new england with some good friends from the city. a friend of ours hosted us at his parents beautiful home where he grew up and it was seriously one of my favorite weekends away. we haven’t really traveled or vacationed with friends before, but we had the greatest time relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of manhattan with everyone. we spent our days swimming and cooking and eating and running around after all the little babes. it was also a lot of fun to put the little ones to bed at night and stay up talking or playing games (um, catch phrase? how is that game so much fun! we have got to get a weekly game night going around here.) we also had a volleyball match one night too after the little ones went to bed. i’m not very sporty, but thankfully no one seemed to mind too much.  i have more photos to share but here are a few below… feeling really thankful for the good friends we have made in the city this year. and also feeling really thankful that it is already tuesday! bam!
happy sixth birthday, blog! and thanks to all of you, our readers and friends, for helping us celebrate six years of blogging this week! as we wrap up all these giveaways, we wanted to share one more! our family really loves to travel (even with two small ones in tow) and so we’re giving away  three $500 hotel credits from hotel tonight!  hotel tonight is a new app where you can find last minute deals in over 100 destinations in 12 countries! (this is open to everyone around the world, and each winner can redeem their credits or the equivalent in Canadian dollars, British pounds, Euros, Swiss Francs or Mexican pesos.) this is the kind of thing that really makes sense for people like us who love to travel last minute and also stay flexible (or as we like to say…spontaneous?) with our travel accommodations as a family during trips. this is how we survived most of our trip to italy last year, and being flexible is one of the tips we shared in our post on traveling abroad with littles.

in addition to giving away the hotel credits, readers can also get $25 off their first hotel booking on the hotel tonight app with the promo code LOVETAZA
our family also loves to bike together! it’s our favorite ways to travel around in the city. we have enjoyed doing evening rides in central park and even going to brooklyn together for my birthday!  josh communtes to work on his bike most days. and while not sure if it’s realistic, i’m researching how to rig mine so i can carry both kids around on my bike by myself so we can go out for bike rides more often. ;) either way, biking is now a davis family pastime and that’s not changing any time soon!

so giving away a bike sounded right. and public bikes is helping us do just that! one reader will receive a PUBLIC C7 or PUBLIC V7 bike in the model and color of their choice!

Thank you for reading!

Dear amazing reader of mywordpie,

I would just like to thank you so much for reading my Pregnancy Diary blog series. From the bottom of my heart. What started out as a collection of iPhone notes scribbled at 2am every morning from my hospital bed turned out to be an all-encompassing project that had me going through the emotions of having baby Gus all over again.

I cried a lot as I wrote this. I realised how much I had forgotten! And how differently I feel as a mother six months on. It was so tricky trying to write from my ‘December me’ perspective. Some of it was really difficult to convey without being too sentimental or just over-sharing! Some of the posts made me feel incredible vulnerable and exposed.

I wanted to tell my story just because I had to get it out of me I guess. What I didn’t expect was for people to enjoy reading it. I mean, it wasn’t like I was the first woman to ever have a baby!! And my birth story is very tame in comparison to some of the trauma that other women have had to go through. I would like you to know that every like, every message, every comment, every share was the most incredible encouragement to me.

In some respects it was a massive task. I would wake up every morning knowing that I had to do the next installment: remember it, relive it and then write it without too many typos (all this while the baby sleeps for his two hour mid-day nap). But once it was done it was wonderfully releasing. In the background I was trying out different styles of story-telling, practising my narrative method, working on my imagery…I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of telling this story.

Not only have you encouraged me to keep writing, but thanks to this experience I’ve decided to apply for a Masters in Creative Writing at Rhodes University, my alma mater in Grahamstown, South Africa. It’s a part time course, run by my favourite and most brilliant narrative journalism lecturer, Robert Berold. It starts in 2014 and runs for two years. I’ve never felt more ready for something like this in my life! There is so much still to learn, so many things about my writing that need to be refined and honed.

I don’t know how I’m going to juggle work, baby and a Masters just yet but I fully expect to have a dirty house all the time at times. But first, I need to submit a portfolio and get accepted haha so let me stop counting my chickens!

In the meantime, I’ve been working on some new blog posts and blog series such as Conversations with Gus and Salad Stories…stay tuned! I will also be putting Pregnancy Diaries into an ebook and self publishing it – I feel like the posts could all do with a good edit and rewrite, so the ebook is a good opportunity to bring it all together. I also need to think of a better title!

So, finally, thank you for going on this journey with me and for tolerating my typos.

Here is a piece of pie for you as a sign of my gratitude.

Photo baby

Here are some of the photos posing all the babies in the house during our baby's 1st visit to Sungai Petani (SP) ...

Zheng Yuan is lying on the rocking bed (make by his grandpa) together with his cousin Chen Yin ...

He is playing together with another cousin Chen Huan, who is about 4 months older than him ...

Grandma is having busy time taking care of two grandson who is about the same age...

Two days after our baby's full moon, we have decided to go to my in-laws' house at Sungai Petani. My wife planned to stay at her hometown before she resume working. Besides, I also can take this opportunity to proceed with the renovation of my house which has been delayed due to my wife's pregnancy.

Here are some of the photos taken when we are on our way to Sg. Petani. Our baby is sitting firmly on his Peg-Prego infant carrier cum car seat (with built-in side impact protection), a gift from my parents ...

Baby Diary

"Got any homework?"

"Yeah."

"Hard?"

"No. I have to write in my baby diary."

"What?"

Tristan turned around in his seat to look at me while I was driving. "See, we are learning about the reproductive system, and instead of a test, she wants us to write about being the sperm."

"Um. Being the ....sperm?"

"Yeah!" Tristan said enthusiastically. "You know: Write about going up the tubes and all that. " Apparently, anything is better than a test. "See, we saw a movie and it was INSIDE A LADY. And we saw the sperm and the egg and the dividing and did you know little babies have stubs for arms and legs?"

"Um. A movie?"

"Yeah. It was gross but cool too. I feel sorry for the mom who had the camera inside of her. Can I ask you a question?"

Oh please, God. Please, please. No questions.

"Why would somebody abort a baby? The movie was really, really cool. Don't they know the baby is alive?"

I sighed. "I don't know sweetie. Usually, it's because they are scared."

"Yeah," he said. "I mean, it does kinda look like an alien."

I sighed again and we talked a little bit about why abortions happen. He was silent for a while. Then:

"I was scared about having Caden, but now I'm glad he's here."

Me too. :)

6.5 weeks Paranoia!! and 12th week D/S scan

6.5 weeks Paranoia!!

OK, I just made a trip to a shopping mall, and a lady made way for me... Body Shop lady asked me how many months.. I mean I feel so funny I been reading books and it shows 6 weeks as tummy barely visible.. and here I am at 6.5 weeks, people asking me how many months!

This morning, I was really happy to see a 2cm decrease. From the usual 84cm to 82cm! And my weight went down too. My OHSS is getting better, Dr Loh is so right, he says 7 weeks will be better..

Anyhow, I have been feeling paranoid of late.. So much so, I am wondering day and night what I can or cannot eat... Wood is my fave friend of late, I keep touching it!!!

Well next appointment is on my 8th week, which is 6th Nov

I pray and hope that my 1st trimester comes and go without any glitches..

Borrowed 2 books on twins!

Think of me...
Baby dust to all

12th week D/S scan

I am typing this with a really heavy heart. Just came back not long ago from our scan. The doctor mentioned that one of our precious twín has an "above average" nuchal thickness at 2.8mm.

Initially I was confident that we can have a second opinion elsewhere, as I have read some other forumers at singaporemotherhood going for 2nd opinion at Camden and everything turned out fine, it was mainly because of the blood test results (which twin pregnancies always have higher hormone levels).

However now, I am worried as my concern is the thickness of my baby's neck..

I am so consumed with fear, worries and what-if thoughts..

I pray and I pray that my fears are all unneccessary..
